Complete the "Hobbit Revision Sample" assignment as posted on the ENL 1W link at the top of the blog.

You were given a copy of the short story "Visitors" and you are expected to have that read for Monday. We will have a reading comprehension quiz on this short story.

Review your grammar and literary terms.

Get both grammar tests signed for tomorrow's class. I have had to repeatedly ask for you to do this. If you do not bring in your signed tests by tomorrow, there will be a consequence as discussed in class.

ENG 2D

Prepare for your in-class writing task tomorrow. You will be asked to write about how a particular literary concept applies to a work of literature studied thus far. (e.g. irony (all types), pathetic fallacy, narration techniques, symbolism etc.) You will have a major unit test next week on short literature.

Get your literary devices quiz signed. If you received below 80%, you likely should be reviewing these terms regularly.

Review previously assigned tasks and get caught up on any missed work.

Again, some of you have still not read the short story "By the Waters of Babylon." It is obvious based on today's discussion. Since we are doing an in-depth study of this text, you need to do a "close reading."

The literary terms test will take place tomorrow and it will definitely be a more challenging test compared to previous ones. It will also include all terms from previous grades and terms studied in this course.

If you did not get your quizzes signed please do so, I will be checking these tomorrow.

Many of you did not get your Hobbit task set complete and were given homework slips to be signed. Please bring those back signed and the homework complete for tomorrow's class. Being prepared for the lesson makes it easier to understand what is being discussed.

Review a map of Judah and Babylon and the river placements and see how that matches up with the rivers in the short story "By the Waters of Babylon." Using this information, think about which direction John goes? Where is his Zion?

Review vocabulary from Frankenstein Excerpt using handout where words were defined and highlighted. You will have a quiz on those tomorrow.

Review Narration lecture notes and the notes you took from the textbook regarding narration.

Next week we will read "By the Waters of Babylon." If you have a busy week next week perhaps consider reading it this weekend.

Lord of the Flies reading. You should be around the halfway mark at this point.

Review your Frankenstein Excerpt vocabulary. Make sure you are pronouncing the words correctly and that you know the definitions of the words. We will be having a quiz next week.

You have three tasks to complete on Teams:
  • Molly Bloom's Soliloquy reading
  • Torres' internal monologue in a stream of consciousness style
  • Frankenstein Excerpt reading.

Review any work from the last week and get caught up if you missed anything. We will be wrapping up our loose ends next week.

Today we peer edited your best paragraph from the topics on the handout "Controlling Ideas" #1-4. You typed this and submitted your revised copy using the "Submit Assignment" link on the side of the blog. I will be printing these and marking them.

We will begin our study of "The Road Not Taken" next week.

Thank you for submitting your in-class task on "Just Lather That's All" where you fully developed the paragraph we have been working on regarding question #2 on how the author creates suspense.

Read the Frankenstein excerpt on page 86. You will have a reading test on that tomorrow. Identify any unfamiliar words you encounter in preparation for a vocabulary exercise.

Next week we will be reading "By the Waters of Babylon" which is a lengthy read so feel free to start that early. You will have a reading test on that and it will be the basis of an extensive study on symbols.
